Case study for
Durbanville Shooting Club
WordPress Website Redesign
The Durbanville Shooting Club reached out to modernize their outdated website and streamline its functionality. They wanted to remove unused features and focus on practical updates that would enhance their members’ experience and attract new ones.

Project Overview
Key upgrades included a “Become a Member” page with easy-to-understand membership requirements and fees, a newsletter signup integrated with Mailchimp, and a Google Map feature with street view for easy navigation to the club. This redesign prioritized usability, clear information, and modern web standards to create an engaging and user-friendly site.
My Role
As the lead designer and project manager for the Durbanville Shooting Club website redesign, I spearheaded both the strategic planning and design execution. My responsibilities included conducting an initial site audit to assess outdated features, consulting with the client to define new functionalities, and designing a visually modern, intuitive interface.
Challenges
While the technical challenges for this project were minimal, the primary focus was on effectively structuring and presenting information. Ensuring that content—such as membership details and event information—was both accessible and visually appealing required careful planning. Through iterative design and feedback sessions with the client, we refined the layout to achieve a balance between aesthetics and functionality, ensuring users could easily find the information they needed.
The Process
Planning & Research
To ensure that the new website truly met the Durbanville Shooting Club’s needs, I began by researching both the club's industry and its operational requirements. This included learning about the structure and functionality of shooting clubs to better understand what members and prospective members might seek in a website. I also familiarized myself with Mailchimp’s audience segmentation capabilities to integrate an effective newsletter solution tailored to the club’s needs. Additionally, I worked closely with the club to establish a cohesive brand identity, incorporating their colour scheme throughout the design for a consistent and visually appealing user experience.

Reflection
This project taught me the value of thorough research and pre-planning, which has become a crucial part of my process. By fully researching tools like Mailchimp and understanding industry-specific needs before implementation, I was able to create more efficient, tailored solutions. I also adopted a new approach of designing mockups for every initial page, finalizing the visual layout before development started—this significantly reduced back-and-forth and minimized development adjustments. Additionally, I developed a streamlined method for building fee tables, making it easier for website admins to update content independently, which improves the site’s long-term maintainability.
